When is urgent care beneficial?

Urgent care is most beneficial when you need immediate medical attention, but your condition isn’t severe enough to warrant a visit to the emergency room. Many facilities offer extended hours as a service to their patients, while others upgrade the level of care they provide to urgent or emergency care.

You should visit an urgent care facility like ER QuickCare when you receive certain types of injuries, such as:

  • Open, gaping wounds that may need stitches
  • Fractures
  • Severe sprains or strains
  • Possible joint dislocations

You should also visit the facility if you have an allergic reaction or experience a high fever that can’t be brought down with over-the-counter medications.

When is urgent care NOT recommended?

While urgent care is extremely beneficial for certain injuries and illnesses, there are times when you should go directly to the emergency room. Such instances include:

  • A severe anaphylactic shock
  • Severe chest pains that indicate a heart attack or other cardiac issue
  • Broken bones and compound fractures that have punctured the skin
  • Traumatic head injuries
  • Uncontrollable bleeding

The staff of an urgent care facility is capable of stabilizing a patient with traumatic injuries, but it may be difficult for them to continue the level of care they need. Emergency rooms are setup to handle severe trauma cases that involve life threatening injuries or illnesses.

Do medical professionals require special training to offer urgent care services?

Providers who work in an urgent care setting have received specific training that allows them to handle emergency situations. Their training allows them to go over and above what a general practitioner can treat. Providers who specialize in acute care are able to identify and treat many conditions that border the line between emergency and trauma care.

The Urgent Care Association of America awarded ER QuickCare with the Certified Urgent Care distinction meaning it meets or exceeds their standards of care. The providers at the facility are dedicated to providing their patients with the level of care they both expect and deserve.
